smWaC: Corpus of the Samoan Web
The Samoan Web Corpus (smWaC) is a Samoan corpus made up of texts collected from the Internet. The corpus was prepared according to standards described in the document A Corpus Factory for Many Languages (Kilgarriff et al. at LREC 2010). The Samoan corpus was created by Bharat Ram Ambati in collaboration with Galumalemana Alfred Hunkin. The size of the corpus is 3.1 million words.
The corpus is not part-of-speech tagged yet.
Tools to work with the Samoan corpus from the web
A complete set of Sketch Engine tools is available to work with this SamoanWaC corpus to generate:
- word lists – lists of Samoan words organized by frequency
- n-grams – frequency list of multi-word units
- concordance – examples in context
- keywords– terminology extraction of one-word
- text type analysis – statistics of metadata in the corpus
